הגן הישראלי באופקים ממוקם בשכונת בן-גוריון בין הרחוב הראשי הרצל לרחוב יהלום המקבי ל לו.
הגן הוקם בשנת תשס"א בתיאום עיריית אופקים לאחר שהגן הממלכתי במקום נסגר.
באופקים "הגן שלי - הגן הישראלי", זו כבר לא רק סיסמא על חולצות של ילדים אלא אמירה עם משמעות וכוונה. בחגים נערכות פעילויות קהילתיות ססגוניות בגן ובסביבתו אך הגן קנה לעצמו שם טוב, בעיקר הודות לצוות הנהדר בניהולה של הגננת יפעת הגלילי. כיום מתחנכים בגן 22 ילדים.
רקע לפעילות באופקים
בעשורים האחרונים הצטמקה מאוד המערכת הממלכתית באופקים עקב הנטישה המתמדת של המערכת הממלכתית לטובת המערכת החרדית ביישוב. כיום, רוב ילדי אופקים אינם מתחנכים במערכת הממלכתית (או הממלכתית דתית).
אזור שכונת בן-גוריון מתאפיין בתהליך התחרדות משמעותי של האוכלוסייה והמצוקה הכלכלית בקרב חלק לא מבוטל של התושבים ניכרת.
The Israeli Kindergarten – Ofakim The Israeli Kindergarten in Ofakim is located in the Ben-Gurion neighborhood on Yahalom Street adjacent to the main road Herzel. The Kindergarten was established in 2000 in cooperation with the local Municipality after the public kindergarten in the same location was closed down. In Ofakim "My Kindergarten – The Israeli Kindergarten" is not only a slogan on a T-shirt but a reality with meaning and intention. The holidays are celebrated in cooperation with the surround community and are variegated and anticipated by all of the participates. The CHAI Kindergarten is managed by Yifat Haglilit and includes a wonderful staff that contributes to the outstanding reputation this kindergarten holds. The unique programs that are implemented in the Kindergarten have made this Kindergarten the most sought after kindergarten in the neighborhood. BackgroundIn the past decades there is an continuing tendency of the residents in Ofakim to turn to Ultra-Orthodox educational establishments in the neighborhood. Today, most of the children in Ofakim aren't enrolled in the public and orthodox public education system. The Ben-Gurion area is characterized as a neighborhood which is constantly becoming more and more Ultra Orthodox. This reality isn't in account of religious beliefs but rather the need to continue in the Ultra-Orthodox spirit it which their children receive their education. Needless to say that in this underprivileged neighborhood , majority of it's residents are in financial distress and tend to lean towards an education system that provides meals and after-school activities at a minimal cost that could only be offered by the CHAI Israeli Education Network and the Ultra – Orthodx programs .
